POLICE are staying tight-lipped about an ongoing search of the River Severn near Stourport Bridge, today.
Officers have been at the centre of a hive of activity with reports coming in within the last hour of a police presence in the town, centred on the historic bridge.
Dylan Evans, Stourport police spokesman, said: "Police can confirm today that searches are underway on the River Severn in Stourport as part of an ongoing operation.
"Officers are combing the riverbank on both sides and police divers are searching the riverbed in an area near Stourport Bridge.
"West Mercia Constabulary is unable to release any further information at this time for operational reasons.
"We would stress there is no cause for alarm and the public is not in any danger."
Officers have been supervising a search of a drain near the Ye Olde Crown Inn pub on the town centre side of the river.
