Police called to hotel fight and affray

POLICE have confirmed that staff at Bewdley's George Hotel called officers to deal with a fight and an affray.

The fight took place on the car park of the Load Street-based hotel on Monday evening.

Two people, a man in his 20s and a man in his 50s, were arrested in connection with the affray, on Tuesday.

They have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Licensing officer, PC Adrian Hewitt, said: "Before the George Hotel was allowed to re-open the premises were inspected and policies and procedures checked and these were found to be satisfactory.

"On both occasions we were called by staff from the George, who are keen to send out a clear message that unacceptable behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated.

"As with all licensed premises, we are keen to work closely with the staff and are offering them our support and advice as appropriate."

He added: "We also welcome the fact the George has recently joined Pubwatch, a scheme in which Bewdley licensees work together and alert each other to any problems."

What a great place The George is - it is certainly an asset to Bewdley and is quite likely to re-vitalise the town after the diabolical recent history and abuse the poor traders have received.

I was concerned that losing the 'old' George was likely to be detrimental - I have been pleasantly surprised.

It's not the fault of the establishment that there was trouble - that's likely to occur anywhere. I just hope that there will now be a suitable police presence to meet the likely future need of the town after it has been raped of such in the past few years!!!
