A BEWDLEY engineer who spruced up the iconic Volvo from 1960s mystery spy thriller The Saint has won the title of Restorer of the Year.
Kevin Price, 57, won the public vote at the NEC’s Practical Classics Restoration Show for his work on his white Volvo P1800, which featured in the first episode of the classic TV show starring James Bond actor Roger Moore.
Mr Price won the Golden Spanner trophy as well as a Sealey tool chest worth £2,000.
He was up against a diverse group of cars which ranged from a 1984 Saab 900T16S to a 1936 Austin Seven Opal Tourer.
Mr Price was voted the winner by visitors to the show at Birmingham’s NEC on Sunday, April 13.
The engineer originally found the classic car decaying under thick brambles on a farm in North Wales more than 20 years ago and since then has spent seven years and thousands of pounds restoring it to its former glory.
In September last year, the car had its first outing to get an MOT and shortly after was driven on its longest journey of 12 miles for a photo shoot with classic motoring magazine Practical Classics.
