THE youngest councillor has been elected to Worcestershire County Council following yesterday’s by-election in Stourport.
Candidate Tony Muir, 22, was elected to the county council and will represent the Stourport ward for the Conservatives after winning the seat with a majority of 38.
He polled 763 votes, with Independent Health Concern candidate Nicola Martin coming second with 725. Labour party’s Jillian Hawes came in third with 581, UKIP’s John Holden secured 547 votes, pushing Green Party candidate Phillip Oliver into fifth place with 42 votes.
Turnout for the poll was 16.6 per cent, with around nine per cent casting their vote by post.
The by-election for the ward was called after the death of Councillor Jim Parish, who had been a county councillor for the past six years.
