THE teenage victim of a hit and run is “lucky to be alive” after the car he was travelling in was ploughed into by another vehicle, leaving him devastated.

Ross Potter was driving on the road for the first time after recently passing his test when a white Rover 400 “came from nowhere” and crashed into the side of his new black Vauxhall Corsa.

The 18-year-old vehicle technician had been travelling with his brother, Aaron and friend, Sam Owen, when the accident happened on Goldthorn Road, Kidderminster, on Tuesday last week. They all suffered minor injuries.

The Rover, which had two people in it, fled the scene in the direction of the town centre, leaving the victims shaken. Mr Potter’s wrecked car, which he bought for £1,650 after months of saving, is now a write-off and the family are urging witnesses to come forward.

Amanda Potter, Ross’s mother, said: “The car was his pride and joy. It’s really upset me and I want something done. It could have easily been a child killed.

“The driver came from nowhere and has written the car right off. Ross saved up to buy the car and that’s what hurts.

“I took his bank card off him for six months so he could save his money. He saved and saved for months and now this has happened. It’s just not fair.

“He’s lucky to be alive. He’s not seeing it that way though because he’s upset that he’s lost nearly two grand. He’s absolutely devastated at the moment.

“I thank my lucky stars that they are all here alive.”

Mrs Potter added that Ross was still shaken by the crash and had been in tears every day since it happened.

The 36-year-old, of Gibbons Crescent, Stourport, went on: “They all suffered bruising and shock and Ross has complained of neck pain.

“It was a beautiful little car. He has to start saving again from scratch for another one. It’s so disheartening.

“Ross has always worked and done everything the right way. We desperately want anyone who saw the accident to come forward.”

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the crash and can identify or describe the driver or vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Simon Wills at Kidderminster Police Station, on 08457 444888, or ring Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
