A RAGING fire blazed through the night at Hartlebury Common and fire crews from across the county battled to control the flames.
A fire crew from Kidderminster was first on the scene after receiving a call at about 6pm last night and called for back up on arrival.
A spokesman at Kidderminster Fire Station said: “We are not talking about a grass fire here, it was trees and undergrowth. It was a real raging fire over a big substantial area of heath and woodland.”
Another engine from Kidderminster attended along with an off-road appliance from Bewdley.
By midnight there were six or seven crews from Kidderminster, Stourport, Worcester, Droitwich and Bromsgrove all tackling the flames.
At about midnight the Kidderminster team was relieved by a crew from Redditch. The fire is said to be out but there are two engines monitoring the scene.
