A KIDDERMINSTER born and bred drummer beat off the opposition to land a place in the line-up of a band with its roots in the Republic of Ireland.

Jamie Desogus returned to his home town as a member of Ideamotion when they played at the Boar's Head Taphouse last month, a gig he said went down well.

Ideamotion were formed in May last year when guitarist, The Major Thom Boland, and vocalist, Brian Kelly, previously with Dublin band, the Beautiful Losers, moved to London.

After recruiting bassist, Robert Hennebry, from Kildare, they added former Harry Cheshire High School pupil, Jamie, following extensive auditions.

The band's influences range from Jeff Buckley to Nirvana, as well as the Smashing Pumpkins and Bob Dylan.

Jamie, now living in London but formerly of Chester Road North in Kidderminster, got into music while he was at school and always wanted to be a drummer. "Maybe it's the aggression," he said, describing himself as "a group-based drummer".

He went on: "I don't want to sound too technical. It's basically doing the good things successfully so you don't go over the top."

Jamie was in Kidderminster band, Underdog, who were well known on the local gigging circuit. "They split up about two years ago now," he said. "I stuck with the bass player for a good while, just having auditions.

"But things came to a standstill so we decided to go our separate ways.

"I came across Ideamotion on their website and went to audition. Three weeks later, I moved to London and I didn't look back."

Since then, the band have been touring all over the country and Ireland, including London, Bristol, Norwich and Leeds, as well as Jamie's homecoming to Kidderminster, which "went very well," he said.

"It's always nice to come home to play. There was a nice, receptive audience. We sold all our CDs."

Ideamotion's debut album, The Fear, The Rush, The Fall, is due out at around the end of August.

It was recorded by Brian O'Shaughnessy, who has worked with bands like Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine. More information on the band is available by logging onto www.myspace.com/ideamotion
