WYRE Forest youngsters will get the chance to meet and question the district’s Olympians at the first Bewdley Youth Festival tomorrow.
The event will be held at the Bewdley Youth Cafe from 4pm where visitors can meet two inspiring local swimmers, a torchbearer and two Games makers.
Jack Brothwell, a long-serving committee member and coach of Wyre Forest Swimming Club, will be bringing along the Olympic Torch that he carried proudly through Redditch prior to the games.
Olympian Amy Smith and Paralympian Claire Cashmore spent the early days of their swimming careers with Wyre Forest Swimming Club before moving onto their universities.
Smith had a busy Olympic schedule representing Team GB in the 50 metres and 100m individual freestyle events and in the 4x100m freestyle relay team.
She narrowly missed the 50m final and also reached the semi-finals of the 100m freestyle.
Competing for GB in the Paralympics for the third time, Cashmore had a Games to remember, winning an individual silver and a bronze.
She was also part of the 4x100m medley relay team that took silver in what was widely judged to be the most exciting relay race of both games.
Dr Jenny Frow, who volunteered to help at the Paralympics, and Tim Hastie, who helped at the archery events for the Olympics and the Paralympics, will also be at the event to talk of their experiences.
Bewdley Youth Festival is part of the 25th anniversary year of the Bewdley Festival and features a number of music, magic and cookery events.
