MIRANDA is a presenter with the television series Coast which, she pointed out, will continue to be produced as long as the viewers watch it.
It was clear, from the enthusiastic response of the large audience at the Mercure Hotel, that it could be with us for some years to come.
Despite being slight in build, it soon became apparent that, wherever the hulking men went, Miranda would want to be there too.
Her anecdotes, supported by photographs, which made up the evening covered extracts from programmes with which she had been actively involved.
That had meant a great deal of time on and under the water observing the amazing wildlife to be found there.
Underwater work can be hazardous and Miranda told us some of the daunting situations she had found herself in.
However, she clearly illustrated that it wasn't all glamour and that re-recording missed dialogue with a bucket over her head was just one of the less attractive parts of the job.
Towards the end, she described her new, prestigious role as president of the RSPB and the direction in which she would hope to guide it.
An enjoyable evening left most of us quite happy to continue to watch Coast from the comfort of our armchairs rather than in trying to emulate her exploits.
