I HAVEN’T seen many live stand-up comedians, so when I headed down to Sara Pascoe’s show at this year’s Bewdley Festival, I was unsure what to expect.
But, Pascoe’s LadsLadsLads show is hilarious from start to finish, smart, personal and a journey many can relate to - efforts to become happy as a singleton.
We started off at the break-up of her last relationship in Decembers – days before Christmas. Leading to the ex-partners to spend a very awkward Christmas Day as they still lived together.
The next hour and a half are filled with her journey of being single properly for the first time in 15 years – a yoga retreat in Costa Rica (not in Spain), date offers, a trip to Paris and even buying her first vibrator.
But she also shows her vulnerability – particularly her story about getting overly emotional at the start of her menstrual cycle – shows her emotional side. She also touches on her feminist views, particularly the man picking up the date bill – illustrated on Channel 4’s First Dates.
Overall, Sara Pascoe showed a wide variety of jokes and didn’t hold back on ridiculing ex-partners and her nightmares of modern dating. I’ll definitely be looking to catch her stand-up when she visits the Midlands again.
Sara also took the time to meet fans after the show for book signings, autographs and photo opportunities.
