THERE have been quite a few hit films modified for the stage over the years and judging by the audience's reaction someone made the right decision to follow suit with Footloose.
From the opening note an electric atmosphere spread around the theatre and that was more than replicated on stage throughout the two-hour performance.
The energy levels of the entire cast were mind boggling and at times I felt out of breath just watching the long dance sequences.
A key element to the show's non-stop feel is the music made famous through the 80's cult teen flick.
Songs like, Let's Hear It for the Boys, Holding Out for a Hero and, of course, Footloose, are now a permanent fixture on the playlist of many a retro bar.
Derek Hough played the lead role of the new boy in a small town, Ren McCormack, who successfully battles against the powers that be to give his classmates an end of year prom.
Both he and fellow lead, Lorna Want, who played the rebellious preacher's daughter, Ariel Moore, deserved their rapturous applause at the end curtain.
Like the film, it is not meant to be serious but if all you are looking for is to leave the theatre with a smile on your face you will not be disappointed. PW
