Chris Pratt and Robert Redford are top of the Minions producers’ wishlist to voice villains.
The Jurassic World and Guardians Of The Galaxy star is the dream choice for producer and animator Chris Renaud, while producer Chris Meledandri chose 78-year-old Sundance Film Festival founder Robert.
“I personally think it’s fun to play against type. If you take a nice guy like Chris Pratt and put him in as a villain, that’s always an interesting idea,” Renaud said.
Steve Carell has lent his vocal talents to play the Minions evil master Gru in the two Despicable Me films, while Sandra Bullock voiced villainness Scarlet Overkill in the spin-off Minions.
Meledandri explained: “One of the things we’ve found about villains is that the nicer the actor, the better they are as a villain. Steve Carell and Sandra Bullock love playing villains, but it couldn’t be farther from who they are.
“So if we could have anybody as a villain, I’d like Robert Redford,” he added.
The pair, who also collaborated on the Despicable Me films, are currently getting ideas for the third movie.
“Despicable Me 3 is coming out in summer 2017. We fully anticipate that everyone will be back to explore another chapter of life with Gru,” Renaud said.
Meledandri added: “We’re deep into it right now. We’ve got some great new ideas that we’re having a blast working with.”
Renaud also teased a Minions sequel could be on the cards.
“We’re always talking about different ideas. What’s nice about the world of the Minions and Gru, much like the Marvel universe, is it’s a place you can expand. You can always expand and find different characters where you can explore,” he explained.
Minions is in cinemas now.
