Our speaker this month was Catherine Whitehouse who gave an insight into her 34 years in the nursing profession leading to her current position working with Commissioning Groups locally. She spoke of the challenges and changes in the NHS over that time. Strongly influenced by her mother and aunt, who were nurses, she has used her skills and training in both private and NHS hospitals around the region. Catherine’s roles have included being a health visitor in a deprived neighbourhood and working in partnership with other agencies in child protection after taking time out to gain a law degree. A golden principle that influences her is that in order for hospital patients to get better, it is often the “tlc” that matters most. Catherine believes that hospitals can achieve the best quality of care for patients.
Also on Remembrance Sunday, members Shirley Bonas and Sue Partridge joined the parade to St Mary’s and All Saints in Kidderminster to pay tribute to servicemen and women killed in conflicts around the world. A wreath was laid on behalf of Kidderminster Soroptimists.
