A KIDDERMINSTER supermarket has donated its fourth defibrillator package to a Wyre Forest school to help young people suffering a cardiac arrest.
Sainsbury’s in Kidderminster donated the defibrillator to Stourport High School after choosing Hand on Heart as its charity partner last year.
The charity aims to ensure all schools are equipped with a potentially life-saving defibrillator and the knowledge to use it to prevent deaths in young people due to sudden cardiac arrests.
Liz Quinn, principal of Stourport High School, said: “Staff and students are absolutely delighted to be the recipients of the Hand on Heart gold defibrillator package and incredibly grateful to Sainsbury’s in Kidderminster for kindly donating the package to us. “Keeping our students safe is paramount to our school and knowing that we will have an on-site defibrillator with appropriately trained staff in case of an emergency is reassuring for us all.”
To raise the funds, Sainsbury’s employees took part events such as sponsored runs and reflexology and holistic therapy sessions in exchange for donations.
Samantha Buckley, spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s in Kidderminster, said: “It has been a pleasure to help raise funds for such a worthwhile cause, and place our fourth defibrillator package into a local school.
“On behalf of Sainsbury’s I would like to say a massive thank you to Jo Carthew of Breathe Holistic Therapy for carrying out a reflexology day and donating all funds to Hand On Heart.”
Since Hand on Heart launched in 2010, the charity has provided more than 150 fully and partially funded defibrillator packages to schools across the UK.
