SPORTY Wyre Forest residents have gone the extra mile to raise cash for good causes in the UK and abroad by taking part in Sport Relief events.
Schools, sports clubs, families and individuals ran, jumped, kicked and swam for the nationwide charity with events taking place between last Friday and Sunday.
Fundraisers put their running shoes on at Stourport Sports Club, which was hosting the district's Sport Relief Mile. The one, three and six-mile events saw 150 runners and walkers brave a brief downpour of rain to raise more than £750.
In the one and three-mile events Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club members Sam Hadley and 14-year-old Tom Palmer crossed the line first respectively. First to finish the six-mile run was Tony Lewington.
Members of Bewdley TAGB Tawkwondo club exchanged kicking pads for kicks in the swimming pool at the Mercure Kidderminster Hotel, Bewdley, on Sunday, with a 19-strong team aiming to swim 800 lengths - 20,000 metres - between them but in the end went above and beyond the challenge, completing 1,466 lengths - 36,650 metres. The group collected more than £550 for Sport Relief.
In Kidderminster, staff and members of the Wyre Forest Glades Leisure Centre got into the right gear to raise £130 during a charity bike ride challenge last Friday, which saw particpants ride 160 miles in total, beating their 100-mile target. Each member had 30 minutes, with Alex Surridge cycling 10.52 miles in that time.
Meanwhile the district's schools also got into the sporting spirit to raise cash. King Charles I School in Kidderminster put on a whole week of activities, including a Sport Relief Mile, a staff versus student hoola hoop, badminton, dodgeball and a Ready, Steady, Cook challenge - raising more than £1,500 in total.
At Franche Community Primary School, year six children finished five daily challenges against the clock in a number of sports and the week ended with youngsters running a mile.
Pupils and staff at Burlish Park Primary School, Stourport, raised £352 last Friday in a walk a mile event, which included youngsters from nursery to year 6. Children at Hartlebury CE Primary School swam, cycled and ran their way to raising money with pupils coming to school dressed as their favourite sports stars on Friday.
More than £223 has been raised at the Heathfield School, Kidderminster, where pupils from nursery through to year 11 ran a Sport Relief mile.
