A STOURPORT primary school was able to raise enough money at its summer fete to go towards the purchase of a second school minibus.
Hundreds people turned out at Burlish Park Primary School to take part in the fete, which was organised by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
It featured entertainment including a baking competition, live music and dance, rides and traditional fete stalls.
Fyonna Muckian, chairman of the PTA, which is also known at the Burlish Fundraising Group, said: “Our fete was a massive success - it was the icing on the cake, and despite the weather on that day we now have enough money to buy a second school minibus.
“We have been fundraising for a while to do this now and with the help from event fund matching from Barclays Bank the minibus will arrive next week.”
The baking contest, titled the Great Burlish Bake Off, awarded prizes for the best cake made by an adult and the best decorated cupcakes made by children aged under 11. Both were judged by members of Mitton WI.
Green-fingered visitors got the chance to enter a miniature garden competition, which was judged by Paul Cook of Cook’s Garden Centre in Stourport.
Winner of the bake-off in the adults category was Kimberley Jones, while Ellie Dusconi won the children’s competition and Daisy Taylor was awarded first place in the miniature garden competition.
The PTA also ran a raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses, including a seven-inch tablet computer, a Pandora bracelet and West Midland Safari Park tickets.
Mrs Muckian said the minibus would help improve pupils’ learning and their enjoyment of school through educational trips, extra-curricular activities and sport.
