PUPILS from across the Stourport pyramid of schools attended an award ceremony to celebrate achieving 100 per cent attendance.
Stourport High School hosted the Pyramid Oscars, which included two attendance award ceremonies during the day, followed by an awards ceremony in the evening.
The awards celebrated the achievements of students of Stourport High School and the primary schools of Burlish Park, Hartlebury C of E, Lickhill, St. Bartholomew’s C of E, Wilden All Saints C of E and Stourport.
Special awards were given for categories including endeavour, friendship, eco-warrior, sports personality, creative writing, languages, citizenship, science and maths.
Former Stourport High School student Marcus Hayes was on hand to give out the awards in the evening.
Mr Hayes, who was a pupil between 1978 and 1981, is managing director of Mason Hayes Solicitors and was shortlisted for the 2013 Law Society Solicitor of the Year.
He attended the awards ceremony after leading workshops for senior students whose ambition was to become successful barristers and solicitors.
As well as his work within law, Mr Hayes is also actively involved in charitable initiatives and in 2010 established his own charity, the Mason Hayes Charitable Trust.
The trust has raised thousands of pounds for charity and helps to widen access to careers in the law.
Mr Hayes said: “It is an honour for me to be able to return to the town where my education began and be part of the tremendous work that Stourport High School does to help its students realise their dreams.
"The Mason Hayes Charitable Trust, in partnership with the school, will now look at further ways in which we can help and support those wishing to enter into the legal profession to turn those dreams into reality.”
Ian James, high school deputy principal, said: “Our thanks and gratitude go to Marcus for his time, kind words and inspirational outlook on life.
"The school community was buzzing at the awards ceremonies and Marcus’ presence had a very positive effect on everyone in attendance.
"We now look forward to working further with Marcus and the Mason Hayes Charitable Trust and building on the success of today’s events.”
The awards day also featured performances from all schools within the Stourport school pyramid.
