PUPILS at Wolverley CE Secondary School celebrated completing their GCSE exams by organising their own Ace of Spades-themed school prom.

The students held the event at Tree Tops Pavilion at Spring Hill Grove in West Midland Safari Park.

As traditional with school leavers’ proms in recent years, students arrived on all sorts of transport, ranging from the traditional limo and high-spec car to the quirky ice cream van, boat and fold-up bike.

Entertainment on the evening included a magician, who performed a number of tricks, which included making a ring disappear, then turning up in a zipped compartment in his wallet and a dance and quiz, which pitched the students against the teachers.

To help improve their themed evening, the enterprising students contacted a number of local companies to ask them to sponsor a table to raise money for extra entertainment.

Additionally, students held a number of fundraising events throughout the year, which included a Prom Pamper evening, where local dress shops and hair and beauty salons went to the school to help the girls prepare for the evening.

Other events included Valentine’s Day and Easter cake sales, as well as a fun tie day, which raised £800.

The end of evening dance saw headteacher, Bryn Thomas, showcasing his break dancing skills.

Mr Thomas said: “The prom was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed by both staff and students alike.

“The students had shown great dedication in fundraising throughout the year to pay for the extra entertainment that they wanted and we are all very proud of their efforts.

“It was an extremely fitting celebration, bringing to an end the hard work our year 11 students had put in over the last year and, whatever they go on to do now, we wish them the very best success for the future.”
