MEMBERS of the public have been warned not to go swimming in Trimpley Reservoir.
Severn Trent Water have issued the health warnings after the soaring temperatures over the past week.
The organisation wants to make sure the public are aware of the deadly dangers that could come from taking a cooling dip in one of its waters.
Katy Shaw, visitor sites manager, said: “Temperatures are rocketing at the moment and we’re all enjoying the sunshine and getting hot.
“However, the worst decision you could ever make is to try to stay cool by paddling or swimming in our reservoirs.
“They are freezing cold, so cold hypothermia sets in quicker than you realise and not only that, they are deep and there are currents which can’t be seen.
“This means that even the best swimmers get into difficulty quickly and when that happens, people end up dead.
“Please don’t ruin your summer. We want our visitors to stay safe while having fun.”
About 400 people have drowned in UK waters each year over the last decade and one in every 10 of these fatalities were children.
In 2013, 20 people drowned across the West Midlands, of whom 13 died during the warmer months.
