For two weeks from 22nd July 2014, I worked as an Intern at Bewdley Development Trust as part of a programme organised by Jayne Greene of IJM Media in collaboration with King Charles I School and Sixth Form Centre.
The two week internship programme consisted of developing a marketing strategic for the Trust including the expansion of its online presence through the development of two websites; Bewdley Development Trust (www.bewdleybt.org) and the Bewdley Local Produce Market (soon to be published).
I found this experience incredibly useful, and I am delighted to have been able to undertake it with such an outstanding social enterprise which doubles up as a Community Interest Company, continuing to play a vital role in the local economic, and social infrastructure of the Wyre Forest.
Bewdley Development Trust is a social enterprise set up as an independent local organisation, working towards the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of Bewdley and the surrounding area. With its vision of supporting Bewdley as a thriving market place, the social impact of Bewdley Development Trust in the local community is truly invaluable.
Grown out of the Market Town Initiative which saw an inward investment of £1 million into the town, Bewdley Development Trust has successfully carried out and completed a number of high-profile projects which have had a beneficial impact on the livelihood of Bewdley as a market town.
One of these projects is the Bewdley Local Produce Market. This is a local initiative which aims to increase the visibility of businesses within the town that use locally grown produce, working towards a sustainable local economy.
Bewdley Development Trust continues to have a real social impact, investing in local infrastructural developments such as that of St. George's Hall, and has successfully developed a number of partnerships with other local groups working towards the long-term economic, social, and environmental sustainability of the Wyre Forest, including Wyre Forest Landscape Partnership.
It is groups like Bewdley Development Trust that continue to play an integral role in the local economic and social make-up of the Wyre Forest that make our communities such a good place to live, work, and visit.
