STUDENTS at a Wolverley school attempted to be record breakers at their latest open days.
World bests in book dominoes, separating jelly beans into colours using chopsticks and racing 100 metres on a space hopper were all taken on at Wolverley CE Secondary School.
Although no world records were broken at the events, there were a number of near misses and one record was equalled, as Ajay Dudley matched the record attempt for the amount of times a space bar can be hit in five seconds with a total of 65.
Bryn Thomas, headteacher, said: “Congratulations to Ajay Dudley for equalling the record for the number of times a space bar can be hit in five seconds – what a great effort.
“Although the library didn’t break their book domino world record, I know there has been talk amongst the students who helped out of giving it another go and making it bigger and better, so watch this space.”
The open days also featured efforts to topple records in knocking nails into wood, hula hoop leg rotations and loud shouting.
Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier, who attended the record breaking open evening, said: “It was really exciting to see how Wolverley CE Secondary School has changed into an imaginative and dynamic school.
“The new headteacher has brought some fresh ideas and new thinking, which will make a difference to the school and the children who go there.”
The school’s open days also offered visitors a chance to participate in experiments with film canisters, air rockets and helium-filled balloons as well as competing in trivia quizzes.
