PUPILS at a Stourport school have been helping to keep the area tidy by organising a litter pick.
The idea for the children of Burlish Park Primary School to carry out the pick came after noticing a public footpath next to the school’s playing field was in need of some tender loving care.
To kick start their quest, year 4 pupils contacted Wyre Forest District Council and Keep Britain Tidy, which provides schools with resources to help organise a ’Big Tidy Up Campaign’ event.
More than 40 children and parents from nursery to year 6 turned out in force to collect eight bags of recyclable rubbish and 12 bags of rubbish for landfill.
Lynda Williams, eco schools co-ordinator, said: “We have a very active eco school committee which is made up of our sustainability governor, staff and children.
“Our committee identified litter as being a problem in our local area and year 4 pupils have taken this on as a priority this term.
“Our parents and children worked really hard on the day and the area looked so much better when we had finished.
“Pupils have now got the litter bug and are looking for other areas in the community that need tidying up.
“If anyone knows of an area that desperately needs some tender loving care please contact the school to see if we can help.”
