YOUTH workers in Kidderminster have been left devastated after vandals wrecked their trailer used for activities with young people across the county.

Rob Delahay, director and cofounder of Active Youth Outreach Services, said the culprits attempted to break into the trailer and steal the on-board generator and fuel tank, overnight between Friday, January 15, and Saturday, January 16.

The locks on the mobile youth unit trailer, which was stored in Gould Avenue West, Kidderminster, had been forced and broken.

The company was forced to cancel a planned visit to a community project in Tenbury on Saturday due to the damage caused.

Mr Delahay said: “We are mortified at these horrible actions.

“Our mobile unit trailer was broken into and thieves attempted to take our on-board generator and fuel tank – thankfully, they were either scared off or didn’t have the correct equipment to take the goods out.

“The locks were forced and broken and as a result of their terrible actions, they have left us with a large bill to try and fix the damage caused.

“On Saturday we were supposed to attend a community project in Tenbury providing positive activities for young people who don’t normally have access to such services and as a result have not been able to attend.

“We have a couple of events coming up this weekend, so hopefully we can repair the damage before then.

“The damage is a huge insignificance for us – we are pretty gutted about this.

“It is hard times. We are trying to do a good thing by helping young people and this puts a huge downer on it all.”

A spokesman from West Mercia Police confirmed the reports of an attempted break-in and nothing was stolen from the trailer, but the locks had been broken.

Anyone with information about the attempted break-in, should contact police on 101, quoting incident reference number 0182S of Saturday, January 16.
