JUBILANT Leave campaigners in Wyre Forest are celebrating after winning a clear majority in the EU Referendum.
Following the ballot, 36,392 (63 per cent) of the 57,666 who cast their vote on Thursday (June 23) in the district opted for Brexit.
A total of 21,240 (37 per cent) chose to remain in the Union.
Councillor Michael Wrench, of UKIP, said: "I'm overjoyed. The people of Wyre Forest have spoken and made it clear that they want their country back.
"I'm very proud of my team who have worked extremely hard and shown passion and drive to achieve this.
"I hope I wake up at breakfast to find the overall result is in our favour."
Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier, who campaigned for Remain said: "We always knew Wyre Forest was going to vote Leave and actually the majority for them isn't as much as we predicted.
"We still have to wait for the overall result. I took a contrary view to my constituents because of all the economic data that I studied very closely.
"I still believe we should stay in for those economic reasons but recognise the people of Wyre Forest have doubts about the EU and it is my job to help them understand how it works."
