A COMPANY behind a controversial Bewdley housing proposal have slapped an appeal in against the district council for failing to make a decision on their plans.
Gladman Developments have told Wyre Forest District Council that they are appealing against the non-determination of the application to build 195 homes on farm land off The Lakes Road.
But planning chiefs said they were “frustrated” by the move as Gladman has been submitting additional information for officers to consider during the past few months.
They are waiting for confirmation of the appeal from the planning inspectorate.
The original outline proposal was submitted last year and sparked huge protest from residents and led to the setting up of the Bewdley Says No To Gladman campaign group.
Gladman declined to comment on the appeal or their plans but have previously said there is a need for more housing in Bewdley and 59 of the properties built would be affordable homes.
Mike Parker, Director of Economic Prosperity and Place at Wyre Forest District Council, said: “We are extremely disappointed and frustrated bearing in mind the amount of additional technical information they have been submitting.
“Previously the company has agreed to give us time to consider the additional technical information submitted, but has now decided to decline any further extensions despite continuing to lodge new details in support of their application.”
Bewdley Deputy Mayor Philip Edmundson said: "If this is true, then it is absolutely an attempt to side step procedure they have instigated.
“Wyre Forest District Council and Highways have asked them to make various considerations and this plan is in the heart of the Wyre Forest.
“It seems to make sense that the district council should ultimately have the say on what happens within their patch.
“I am sure that this is due to the fact that various plans and schemes have failed to convince the majority of people within the area and who have an understanding of planning and land use that this is a welcome development."
