VOLUNTEERS at Kidderminster Foodbank have been overwhelmed with kindness after donations flooded in following a break-in at the charity’s base.
Members of the public, businesses such as Painters Solicitors and Quads and Castles as well as other organisations have come to the aid of the facility to donate food, money and even two laptops to replace what was taken.
Thieves targeted Baxter Church – which houses the foodbank – twice within four hours on January 3 and 4 causing damage to the doors and office before taking the computer, cash and food.
But co-ordinator Maureen Lewis said: “II would like to send my thanks to the wonderful response we have received from the community of Wyre Forest and further.
“We are still getting donations of food and money from so many wonderful people. One lady arranged for what must have been over £100 of food to be delivered by Morrison’s and we do not have any other details except the name on the order.
“Many local businesses have donated money and food, and at present we have £3000 and so much food we are still reeling from the amount.
“So much compassion is awe inspiring and more than makes up for the two vandals who did so much damage.
“All the doors and the locks were repaired with additional strength for free and we have been given two laptops.
“We are putting up new shelving and we have been offered an alarm system.”
Meera Kholsa, partner at Painters Solicitors said: “It’s wonderful that individuals and local businesses such as Painters are able to pull together to help others in time of need.
“Kidderminster Food Bank helps many local families and without them these families would suffer greatly.
“We chose to donate to the Food Bank as it is round the corner to our Kidderminster office on Church Street.
“Staff and partners alike were horrified to hear of the break in, hence we were very happy to make a donation to help this vital community resource.”
