LEGENDARY pop mogul Pete Waterman OBE has been announced as the new Honorary President of Kidderminster Male Choir.
The producer, who launched the music careers of the likes of Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Donna Summer and Steps, has agreed to take on the role representing a real coup for the group.
As well as being responsible for more than 500 million records sales around the world, he has also been an author, DJ, Pop Idol judge and television presenter
The steam engine enthusiast’s status as the most successful producer-songwriter in British history has been cemented with a clutch of awards including 13 Ivor Novellos.
A spokesman for Kidderminster Male Choir (KMC) said Mr Waterman has retained the same passion for music he had as a young boy who cycled between local churches to earn a few shillings singing in their choirs.
He added: “We are absolutely delighted that Pete Waterman has accepted the post of Kidderminster Male Choir Honorary President.
“His remarkable career in music started with choirs and we know he is passionate about choir singing and particularly the male voice genre.
“Pete has already signalled his intention to be involved with the choir as much as his busy business and music recording schedules will allow.
“We will be welcoming him to at least one of our concerts prior to Christmas and hopefully many more.
“Having him involved with KMC, and being able to attract such people of stature as Pete Waterman to support the choir, adds to the growing belief that KMC is a force of distinction and success within the Male Voice Choir world.”
The choir is about to enter their busiest period of 2018 starting with a short tour to Bournemouth where they will join Romsey Male Voice Choir and Bournemouth Male Voice Choir in concerts.
This is to be followed by a very special and unique concert on November 10 in remembrance of the fallen of all wars.
As it is the 100 Anniversary of the end of World War 1 the concert will start at 11pm and will continue until 12.30am on Remembrance Sunday.
KMC will be joined by the fabulous ‘Berkley Square’ who will bring their unique and beautiful voices to the proceedings.
The concert is in support of the British Legion Poppy Appeal and tickets will be on sale priced £10 shortly.
Tickets will be available from the usual KMC sources or direct from Steve Conway KMC Concert Secretary on 07774 252 992 or 01562 850 054.
