A FORMAL application has been lodged to demolish the former Stourport Sports Centre to make way for a caravan park.
The derelict leisure centre in Harold Davies Drive and its associated car park will be replaced by a touring caravan site with reception building - if the proposal by Bewdley Caravans is approved by council planners.
Plans include a single-storey reception area and caravans set in a grassed parkland layout to accommodate longer stay visitors.
The development requires planning permission from Wyre Forest District Council, following a public consultation.
A council spokesman said the planning application was received Tuesday, January 29, and that a "consultation is currently taking place where relevant consultees and interested parties are free to comment on the application".
Stourport Sports Centre was closed in July 2016, coinciding with the opening of the £11.9m Wyre Forest Leisure Centre.
Back in November 2016, the former leisure centre and its associated car parks were sold to Riverside Caravan Park for £500,000.
A video posted online in December exposed the dilapidated state of the old sports centre, which is now cluttered with rubble and blotted with graffiti.
