ON January 26, the Stars Drama Club mounted their second production. This year, the team of sixth formers who led the club had written and produced their own pantomime, Cinderella.
Most of the main characters were played by year 11 students, with Sonia Benbow as Cinderella and Chelsea Milton a very effective Prince Charming. Helen Mackie made an excellent Fairy Godmother countering a very attractive but (almost too realistic) sinister evil stepmother played by Jenny Lobley. Buttons was played with remarkable assurance by Robert Broadhurst from year nine.
David Sullivan from year 13 played Gertrude, one of the ugly sisters. David joined the cast late and had to learn his part very quickly, including learning to walk in high heels!
The audience was impressed by the quality of the production, especially considering that the show was mounted with no staff involvement. Afterwards, Mr O'Regan congratulated Kate Broad-hurst, Robyn Andrews and Claire Harrison for their leadership and management of the club and expressed his hope that other students will pick up the mantle when the original instigators of Stars move on.
