More than 100 people have packed into a public meeting to hear how they can reduce plastic waste.
Bewdley and Kidderminster Transition groups, which organised the event, said they were delighted by the public support.
The groups staged their event on “The Plastic Pollution Menace” at St George’s Hall in Bewdley on Tuesday, May 14, where Transition Kidderminster media officer Sharon Cartwright gave a presentation about what members of the public could do locally to reduce the harm caused by discarded plastic.
Sharon said: “The popular TV series Blue Planet has opened people’s eyes to the devastation caused by plastic, and many members of the public want to know what they can do about it.
“We’re delighted that so many people came along to last week’s event, which also featured stalls from various local groups giving information on litter-picking, recycling, reusable nappies and lots of other alternatives to plastic.
“We’re also very pleased that several Wyre Forest district councillors also attended, including the Green Party’s newly-elected Vicky Caulfield, who lent a hand by dressing in our “Professor Plastic” outfit to emphasise the harm caused by plastic waste.
“Members of the public can learn how they can help reduce plastic waste by visiting our website at transitionkidderminster.org.uk or by emailing me at scartwright100@hotmail.com”
