THE new chairman and vice chairman for Wyre Forest District Council have been sworn in at an annual council meeting.
Councillor Shazu Miah was made chairman on Wednesday, May 22 at the council’s Annual General Meeting.
He has been a councillor for Offmore & Comberton ward for 3 years.
As the Chairman, Councillor Miah will represent the district at a wide range of functions across the region, including community and charity events and formal openings.
The councillor will also chair council meetings and work throughout the year to raise money for charity.
He has chosen to support Kidderminster & District Youth Trust, HELP and Stourport Cancer Research Committee.
The new chairman said: “It’s a great honour to be serving as Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council for this municipal year. I will endeavour to be a good ambassador for both the council and district.
“I am also looking forward to representing the council at events and organising fundraising occasions for my chosen charities.”
Councillor Peter Young, who represents Broadwaters, will be Vice Chairman for the municipal year.
Councillor Miah takes over from outgoing chairman Councillor Stephen Williams.
