AFTER 19 years Habberley Valley Visitor Centre has reopened its doors to the public.
The old visitor centre in Valley Close has been given a new lease of life after the new lease holders spent six weeks refurbishing the site into a fully-functioning information centre and cafe.
Habberley Valley Visitor Centre will serve hot and cold drinks, plus a selection of sandwiches, cakes and ice creams from 9am every day.
There will also be a notice board in the centre promoting events, alongside information about Habberley Valley's wildlife, supplied by Wyre Forest District Council's Ranger Service.
Closing times will vary, depending on demand and the weather.
New manager Wendy, who will be running the centre with the help of family members, said: "It's been a big job. The centre was practically a shed and not it's a nice bright building with a new roof. Everything has been revamped.
"Me and my husband have walked our dog over Habberley Valley for years and every time I'd say it's such a shame the centre is closed - I'd love a cup of coffee.
"When I was a kid we used to come over here and buy a Wagon Wheel and a bottle of pop. It was great.
"So I just emailed the council and said it would be nice if it reopened. Then the council put it to tender and we got it.
"It would be really nice to get more people coming over here again. Even people who don't live in Kidderminster can come and find out more about the valley and other nature reserves in the area. It's a point of contact for people.
"It's all about family. The centre will give them a place to go that won't cost them a fortune and get the kids out and about rather than sitting on their computers all day."
Councillor John Thomas, cabinet member for operational services, said: "Our rangers have worked really closely with the new owners and I’m sure the visitor centre will be a great success.
"I would urge anyone who has a free hour to come along and enjoy a cake or two.”
