CRICKET clubs face an uncertain summer after the Midlands’ premier leagues announced the start of the season will be postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Barnt Green CC were due to begin their Birmingham League Premier Division One campaign with a trip to Moseley on Saturday, April 18, while Bromsgrove were scheduled to visit Pelsall in their Division Two curtain-raiser.
However, the league, following guidance from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), has said: “The league match programme, due to commence on Saturday, April 18, will be suspended until a start date for the season is confirmed.
“When that date is confirmed, the Cricket Committee will determine the structure and playing format to be adopted for the remainder of the season.”
The Worcestershire League, featuring Belbroughton and Hagley among other teams, has also delayed its season.
A Worcestershire League statement said: “We can confirm the start of the 2020 season will be postponed until further notice.”
