STAFF at Kidderminster’s Baxter College have been busy delivering 180 food hampers to the homes of pupils who are entitled to free school meals.
The meals have been put together by the school’s caterers, AIP, and contain items including fruit, bread and potatoes.
Baxter principal Matthew Carpenter said: “The staff knock and leave the hampers by the doors in accordance with the social distancing rules.
"We are a strong family community at Baxter and it’s vital during this unprecedented time that we keep our community safe and connected.
“Our staff are doing a fantastic job in many ways, delivering hampers being just one of them.
"We are regularly contacting families to check they are okay.
"Next week we will move to the distribution of vouchers, but families will be able to keep in contact with us if they are struggling to find food.”
Mr Carpenter added: “The staff have been heartened by the Facebook comments from parents who appreciate their efforts.
“We have a small group of pupils regularly coming to school this week and our senior leadership team is providing them with the same work that is being sent out online to our pupils who are learning from home and enjoying the sunshine with some outdoor education.”
