A SALON owner from Kidderminster is set to brave the shave to raise money towards free haircuts for frontline staff after the coronavirus crisis.

Sharon Lavelle Perkins, who runs Vibe Hair and Beauty, has pledged to shave off her hair and donate the sponsorship money to say thank you to NHS and emergency workers risking their lives during the pandemic.

All hairdressers and beauticians at the Worcester Street salon have donated four free haircuts worth £100 to see their colleague go bald, and Sharon is looking to raise another £1,000 in donations to treat local key workers once lockdown restrictions are lifted.

Sharon told The Shuttle: "We wanted to do something to say thank you to key workers, emergency services and NHS staff and I had this crazy idea to do a head shave and hopefully raise more money to pay for more haircuts for the people who have worked tirelessly through this pandemic.

"If I can raise £1,000, that means we can offer around 70 haircuts for people that are so deserving of it.

"We have a lot of clients who work on the frontline, so this is a thank you to them.

"There are so many people who are deserving of this and if we can raise more, we can extend the offer to more key workers like shop workers."

Any local key workers wanting to sign up for a free haircut can do so by messaging Vibe Hair and Beauty on Facebook.

Sharon added: "If not that many people come forward to sign up for a free haircut, we’ll donate the money to presents for local nursing homes - but I think they will go quickly. It will be first come, first served."
