FESTIVE spirit has been overflowing at two Wyre Forest high schools where donations of seasonal treats and essentials have flooded in to help those in need.

Students and staff at Stourport High School have donated more than 80 food hampers to elderly and vulnerable residents and 1,200 items have gone to the Kidderminster Food Bank from the town’s Baxter College, including more than 100 donations from year eight student Rebecca Philpotts, who collected from family friends.

Both schools, which are members of the Severn Academies Educational Trust, have run the Christmas appeals for several years and trust chief executive Chris King described them as “shining examples of our values of caring, citizenship and responsibility”.

Jon Sheers, Stourport High School principal, said: “Usually a group of students, supported by staff deliver the hampers, but this year it’s had to be just the staff because of the Covid-19 restrictions.

“Over time, we have compiled a list of elderly and vulnerable individuals and families within our community who receive the hampers. Christmas is a time for giving and delivering the hampers to their doors makes it a very personal appeal.”

Baxter College principal Matthew Carpenter added: “The food bank has become a lifeline for even more families during the pandemic and our students and staff are always very keen to support it, especially at this time of the year.”
