Budding young sports star Grant Jones, 17, a student at Kidderminster College, has set his sights on competing at the London 2012 Olympic Games after winning silver in the British National under 18's Judo Squad.

Grant, who represented Great Britain at the Judo Championships in Holland last month, will be too young to compete in Beijing in 2008 but has his heart firmly set on competing in London four years later. "I got into Judo when I was only 4, it is a real passion for me and I love competing. Making it into the GB youth squad was fantastic and I am really looking forward to competing with the squad again next year. For now, my goal is to do well at the British Nationals in December."

Studying a National Diploma in Sports Science at Kidderminster College, Grant's life is surrounded by sport. "I really enjoy my course, it is great learning about the theory behind excelling at sport. I've especially enjoyed the module in nutrition and learning about the different food stuffs an athlete should take on board, it's really helped me prepare myself for events."

Grant's tutor Verity Perry said: "Grant is a talented young individual and it is great to see him taking such an interest in his course. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that his talents in Judo along with the theoretical knowledge he'll gain from the course, will stand him in good stead for the 2012 Olympics."
