POLICE have been carrying out a knife sweep at St George's Park in Kidderminster today after a huge machete was found hidden in the undergrowth.
A member of the public made the shock discovery last week, with the Wyre Forest Police Inspector saying the photograph "doesn't do justice" to the blade's sheer size.
The machete was found in the bushes at the park off Radford Avenue and reported to police.
Posting a photograph on social media of the knife, which was nearly three times the size of an average biro pen, officers said: "I'd just like to say a big thank you to the member of public who managed to spot this tucked away in the bushes on St George's Park.
"Working together means we can make our community a safer place.
"Please always be mindful and if you spot anything suspicious then please call us."
Wyre Forest Inspector David King wrote: "One of my officer's came and showed me this... the picture doesn't do it justice.
"It's a big knife and would do some serious harm.
"Carrying a knife isn't acceptable and carries four years jail time."
Kidderminster Safer Neighbourhood Teams carried out a knife sweep at St George's Park today (Monday) in response to the discovery.
During the sweep, officers discovered medication, drug paraphernalia and a knife.
Sharing a photograph of a glass bottle, a knife and a crow bar on Twitter, the SNTs said: "Whilst searching St George's Park, we discovered medication, drug paraphernalia, and the pictured items that all could be used as weapons.
"Thank you to the community and those we spoke with at the park. Future knife sweeps in other areas will be coming."
