A CARE home in Kidderminster is hoping to be recognised as the most active in the region after residents and staff clocked up more than 100 work-out hours in five weeks.

Brook Court joined the nationwide Minute Your Moves initiative, organised be Age UK, and racked up more than 6,200 minutes by taking part in balloon volleyball, dancing and regular walks.

The Oldnall Road contributed to more than a third of the total Wyre Forest District minutes and every participant received a certificate to celebrate the achievement.

Win or lose, the exercise challenge has inspired Brook Court residents to keep moving.

Scot Young, a resident at Brook Court, said: “Nine times out of 10, you feel like you want to give up exercising when you get older, but this campaign made us realise we can still move and be active. I am very proud of myself.”

Gill Pratt, home manager at Brook Court, added: “We’re over the moon with how many minutes we’ve totalled over the course of just five weeks. I think it’s fair to say we’re one of the fittest care homes in the area!

“Staying active is so important, even more so for older people. Regular, light exercise can reduce the risk of falls and slow down the decline of some mental functions, making it a great way to remain as independent as possible while enjoying a number of activities, from walks in the fresh air to team sports.

“I’d like to say a big congratulations to the residents and team members who helped us reach this incredible milestone, and to our wonderful lifestyle team for organising a variety of activities to keep us moving.”
