A TERMINALLY ill man who bared his bum at a speed camera was baffled when cops raided his home and wrestled him to the ground.
Darrell Meekcom, from Kidderminster, was diagnosed with multiple system atrophy (MSA) last month, a terminal condition which affects the nervous system.
The 55-year-old, who also has Parkinson’s Disease, says the life expectancy following a diagnosis of MSA is around six years, although this varies from person to person.
Following the tragic diagnosis, his wife Sarah suggested he wrote a bucket list of things he wanted to do before his death. One of the items was to moon a speed camera and he decided to fulfill his wish on Friday (November 5).
When driving back to his home on Coley Close, at the Blakebrook estate, Mr Meekcom decided to stop at a speed camera van positioned on the Stourbridge Road. His wife popped into the nearby Tesco Express to buy some bread whilst Mr Meekcom parked up.
He said: "I got out the car and flashed my bum. I pulled my trousers up and got back in the car. I didn't think anything of it."
"It was a good laugh."
He said that onlookers also laughed at his antics, which lasted a matter of seconds.
However, police later turned up at Mr Meekcom's address to arrest him for indecent exposure and dangerous driving.
"I came home and within 20 minutes there was a police van outside, he said.
"They were banging on the window.
"Within another five minutes three squad cars turned up. I said to my wife there's no way I'm going out there.
"I was too scared to go out. It was quite frightening really."
He says that officers damaged his front door and fence. He later decided to go outside to police in his garden.
He added: "Despite coming out to the police to give myself up they destroyed my front door and smashed the back gate to pieces.
"They grabbed my hands and I'm saying I'm not resisting, I'm giving myself up.
"There were six of them restraining me trying to get their arms up my back."
Mr Meekcom was brought to the ground and claims he suffered a blow to the head. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Mr Meekcom added: "I felt like I had been abused. It was outrageous bullying.
"They saw me as a big fellow. They maybe perceived me as a threat.
"They could have killed me very easily."
Mr Meekcom has two girls with his wife Sarah. Mrs Meekcom, aged 36, said: "I was frightened and I'm just so glad the children weren't there.
"It was shocking to see."
After he was released from custody later in the day, his vision was blurred and he suffered a seizure.
He went to Kidderminster Hospital, but he was referred to Worcestershire Royal Hospital due to fears he suffered a bleed to the brain.
He says he has reported the incident to the police complaints commission.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Around 1pm on Friday 5 November officers received a report of indecent exposure on Stourbridge Road.
"Officers attended and after a search of the area, located a person of interest in Coley Close.
"A 55-year-old man from Kidderminster was arrested on suspicion of public order offences and released on bail."
