A WOMAN who has travelled the world was devastated after her cases disappeared in front of her Blakedown home.
Lizzie Hyde got ready to head down to London on Saturday (January 22), where she works as an innovation strategist.
She had taken her luggage to the end of her gravel drive on Mill Lane, when she realised she had forgotten a cable for her computer.
She unlocked the house, went upstairs to get the cable, and went back to discover her two cases had been taken - all in the space of around five minutes.
Lizzie then rang the police who took a witness statement. She's lost one large suitcase and a smaller green and black case.
The 35-year-old said: "When it happened I was just hysterical for a minute.
"Everybody keeps saying maybe it was charity collection or scrap man took it by mistake because this has apparently become a thing here - to leave things for others to take.
"But this was two heavy suitcases that were almost new.
"I’d been living in Berlin and etiquette was you always leave a sign saying ‘zu verschenken’ which means to take, otherwise it’s not going spare.
Lizzie has since put a sign up on her fence asking people whether they saw anything.
"I’m devastated. It’s not the cost but the time and effort to replace all my personal items. I feel quite violated.
"The best end to this story would be for somebody to return my cases."
