THE Severn Valley Railway is offering enthusiasts a rare glimpse into life behind the scenes at this popular tourist attraction.
The Railway’s ‘Open House Weekend’ will take place on the 2nd and 3rd April.
Visitors will be encouraged to sample one of the unique experiences that will be on offer. These will include: a tour of the signal boxes at Kidderminster and Bewdley, visits to the locomotive boiler and machine shops at Bridgenorth, cab tours of the Severn Valley Railway’s diesel engines and a demonstration by resident stonemason, Philip Chatfield.
Four trains will be in operation, which will give visitors plenty of opportunity to stop off and see what is going on at each station. Short brake van rides will be taking place at Highley and a bus service, provided by Wyvern Omnibus, will be in operation to transport visitors to Eardington Halt (described by Severn Valley Railway as a “hidden gem”!)
Michael Dunn, head of visitor experience at the Severn Valley Railway said: “The return of the Open House Weekend is the ideal way to start our 2022 calendar”
By offering a behind-the-scenes look at the railway, we’re hoping visitors will be inspired and amazed to see how we make everything work. The opportunity to go backstage at an operational railway really is a one-of-a-kind experience.”
