These fascinating photos are a look back over Kidderminster’s ties to both the railway and the carpet industry. Built in 1862, the Severn Valley Railway began life as a train line for local passengers and goods but fell out of use due to the advent of diesel units.
Hardworking locals worked to bring the SVR Railway and the steam engines back to life in the 1970s, and now the SVR runs as heritage transport.
SVR’s story is one similar to the Museum of Carpet’s own, where the people of Kidderminster lobbied hard to create a museum for the heritage of Kidderminster and its main industry.
From the 12th of April, you can combine a trip on the Severn Valley Railway with a visit to the Museum of Carpet at a reduced price.
The museum is a unique experience, ran by friendly and knowledgeable volunteers, many of whom worked in the original Kidderminster carpet factories.
Celebrate Kidderminster’s art, heritage and industry ties in a venue that is perfect for all weathers. Visit www.svr.digitickets.co.uk to secure your tickets.
