These photographs demonstrate the span of weaving across Kidderminster’s history. Hand looms back in the 1730’s at the beginning of Kidderminster’s carpet industry, followed by power looms throughout the industrial revolution and beyond.
The Museum of Carpet houses both hand looms and power looms, with these working exhibits showcasing Kidderminster’s carpet ties.
This summer at the Museum of Carpet, children can get involved with the heritage of Kidderminster, through taking part in weaving workshops.
These workshops offer children the chance to learn a little about Kidderminster’s woven connections and weave a piece of cloth to take home for themselves.
For adults, there are 1 to 1 spinning lessons available, providing the opportunity to learn the art of spinning with a hands-on practical session.
The exhibition Magnificent Design runs from 2nd July to 3rd September, and is included in a standard museum entry ticket.
