LITTER pickers have been working “tirelessly” to clean up Hartlebury Common following fresh flytipping on the lower heathland.
Volunteers from The Pickup Artists, Hartlebury Common local group and Worcestershire County Council turned out to do their monthly maintenance litter pick on Monday (July 25).
On arrival, volunteers spotted newly fly-tipped waste and litter, including a can of Guinness that had a sell by date from 2001, and a wheelie bin that had travelled from Dudley.
Karen Blanchfield, Keep Britain Tidy Litter Heroes Ambassador, said: “I have to say that I had mixed feeling today as the return of fresh fly-tipping was evident and the litter once again amounted to 40-50 bags.
“If we did not do our monthly litter picks the site would return to being a fly-tipped site once again. It can be quiet infuriating when we start but the amazing team effort to clear it all up in order to clean the SSSI site is very rewarding when litter & waste free".
The next maintenance litter pick is on Monday, August 22 at 10.30am meeting at Brian Norton & Sons garage on Sandy Lane industrial estate.
The Pickup Artists are asking for community volunteers to help us maintain the lower heathland site. All equipment is provided.
