CONGRATULATIONS to Bert Tromans for getting it wrong and having the guts to say sorry (Gilgal: I imagined Give Way markings, Letters, February 28).
I would like to express my opinion though, because I see on a daily basis people stopping the flow of traffic at various sections of Stourport's one-way system, when no Give Way signs exist.
The Gilgal consists of two lanes, the left side has traffic from Kidderminster direction down the Gilgal and along to the island at the former Parsons Chain site, the other lane carries traffic from Vale Road down the Gilgal and around and up Mitton street to the start of Vale Road again.
If traffic from Vale Road wishes to use the left side of the Gilgal, they should continue down the Gilgal and mirror signal manouvre' to gain access, and the traffic on the left should do the same to access the right side of the Gilgal.
Stopping at the top of the Gilgal and waiting to "wrongly" cross the unbroken white line that separates the two lanes for a short distance, only creates a backlog on Vale Road, and tempers are bound to rise as the drivers behind are held up needlessly.
As a long-standing driver in and around Stourport I see this not only at the Gilgal but on several parts of the one-way system where again no Give Way markings are present.
Mitton Street into Vale Road and Mitton Street on to Lion Hill are also popular stopping places for the ignorant.
So if the drivers in Stourport drove correctly and observed the right procedure, the traffic would flow more readily, and drivers would be less hostile.
And at times of heavy congestion down the Gilgal,I have always been let across, and return the favour when needed.
Let's keep traffic flowing drivers, get it right, and all will be fine.
Stay in your lane until you wish to mirror signal manouvre' without STOPPING the traffic.
