AN inspirational woman who continued working for the elderly while being treated for cancer has been recognised for outstanding achievement.
Trudi Davis, of The Birches, in Stourport, works as an activity co-ordinator at Astley Hall Nursing Home and was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago.
The 45-year-old continued her one day a week GNVQ course at Kidderminster College and her work at the home while undergoing chemotherapy.
She was nominated for the award by her course tutor for being an inspiration to women diagnosed with cancer.
She said: "I was having operations and still going to college and work.
"It was hard but I'm happy that I was well enough to do it.
"It's nice to win the award. I didn't feel that I had done anything special but my tutor said I had got on with things, despite what I was going through. I was just doing my job.
"I was surprised that I had won and I was not expecting it.
"My tutor said I was nominated because I am always smiling and because I'm a good role model for students. She also said I'm inspirational to women who have been diagnosed with cancer.
"I enjoy working at the nursing home because I love looking after other people. I like to give a bit back because so many people looked after me when I was having chemotherapy."
Carol Wallington, matron at the nursing home, said: "Trudi is a bundle of cheerfulness and an example to all who work for her.
"She's an excellent example of a true survivor for other breast cancer sufferers."
