VOLUNTEERS from Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club raised a staggering £1,050 by bag packing at Sainsbury's in Kidderminster last Saturday.
A group of about 30 adults and children were on hand between noon and 4pm, with a bucket for donations kept by each till.
Sue Saunders, club secretary, said: "I can't believe how much we raised. We thought we would reach a total of £200 to £300. It was fantastic.
"We are so grateful to all the people who donated. It was tremendous. Even the people who didn't want their bags packed gave a donation. Everyone was so responsive."
"Everybody said they enjoyed it, although it was hard work. It was also rewarding and extremely worthwhile - a real success."
Another day of bag packing was planned for April.
