THE man responsible for keeping Wyre Forest roads safe insists a good job is being done and that Worcestershire County Council's current strategy is working.
Barry Barnes, a county liaison officer for the council's highways department, has been jointly responsible for the roads in North Worcestershire since the launch of a new scheme at the beginning of the year.
He said: "I think we do a good job and react to complaints quickly. The current situation is working and we are putting things right after all the heavy rains."
The retired West Midlands Police traffic officer said he would respond to any report that roads were unsafe, whether through a tree blocking the road, potholes or drainage problems.
He said that whenever complaints were made to the Worcestershire Hub he was able to access the comments made and decide on the problem's severity.
He added he would then travel to inspect the problem by motorbike, which was environmentally friendly, allowed him to get to the scene more easily and could be kept out of the way.
Mr Barnes said: "If there is an emergency situation we are on to it straight away. We contact the council's contractor, Ringway, who will put problems right.
"Some are dealt with in an hour, others a day, a week or a month. "
Mr Barnes said the majority of complaints were about potholes but added the state of the roads was "pretty good".
He added: "Potholes are a problem. We are getting on top of them now but we had quite an influx of complaints about them earlier in the year."
