PLANNING chiefs have thrown out an application to turn a vacant Stourport shop into a bar and restaurant.

The proposed plan, by Barracuda Group Ltd, also includes seating area to the rear of the empty Bridge Street premises.

During yesterday's planning meeting, members of Wyre Forest District Council's Planning Development Control Committee, refused the plans, as it would jeopardise the longer term development of the area.

Conservative Stourport town councillor, David Little, addressed the councillors to voice his support of the site.

Labour councillor, Chris Nicholls, said he would not support the plans as it would be a short term gain.

Independent Health Concern councillor, Jill Fairbrother-Millis, supported the refusal.

She said: "Living in Stourport I'm aware of the issues of boarded up shop fronts and the concerns of the town's council and residents.

"It's very tempting to want to approve this application but I'm going to support refusal."
